In the early 19th century, stirrup cups were originally used as a vessel to hold a drink offered to a man on horseback before a hunting departure and then engraved with mottos taken from the chase.
Nowadays, stirrup cups are still commonly connected with hunting but are also used for decorative gifts on any occasion.
